In some instances, acquisition may be implemented through expropriation, where an agreement with the landowner has been reached for such and this is with compensation, which is a more efficient and cost-effective mechanism. Once the
acquisition process is concluded, the acquired property is captured in the municipal asset register and maintained by the Restoration Ecology branch of BMD, which is responsible for the implementation of management programmes.
