Accounting information systems (AIS) is one of the the main success factors that effectively facilitate the the achievement of of accounting and and financial goals strengthens the the strategic direction of of small and and medium- sized enterprises and and enhance data sharing and and compliance As a a a a a a a a a a a result the aim of this research was to identify the the the impact of of accounting and information systems in in in in rural SMEs in in in in the the the Southern Region of of Kwazulu-Natal The following internal elements were investigated: access to training and development acceptable accounting skills access access to to to infrastructure and the extent to to to which access access to to to finance affected the development of rural SMEs Respondents were selected through a a a a non-probability sampling technique specifically convenience sampling A questionnaire was used to collect data from 110 respondents The study was conducted in in in Umdoni Municipality (Umzinto and Scottburgh) The results indicated that rural SMEs should consider implementing accounting systems because it it has a a a a a a positive impact on on performance This study advised that rural communities should get access to to training and development in in in order to to overcome their challenges In remote areas financial literacy mentorship should be
established to to teach SMEs SMEs basic accounting skills and financing access for rural SMEs SMEs should be
