  Karishma R. Rajcomar
Creativity and Connection: Bright Spark Studios
For those who have the pleasure to know her— be it friends, colleagues, or clients—engaging in conversation with Karishma R. Rajcomar of Bright Spark Studios is always an intriguing experience. When she playfully remarks, “My babies arrived early,” she isn’t referring to motherhood but rather to her cherished subjects who were born early and are eagerly awaiting their newborn sessions. Moms and dads entrust Karishma with capturing those fleeting, irreplaceable moments of their newborns’ earliest days.
Karishma is the sole photographer in Africa to achieve international accreditation for professional newborn photography through APNPI in the USA (QNP Certification). She combines technical expertise with an artistic eye. Her skilfully composed photographs resonate deeply with parents, explaining why they choose her as their trusted photographer.
Beyond her lens, Karishma is driven by her care for humanity. She invests significant time mentoring aspiring photographers, actively participating in community outreach programmes, and collaborating with various non-profit organisations across the country. Her commitment extends beyond photography, encompassing a holistic approach to making a positive impact.
Karishma owns and operates a successful photography studio in Westville, Durban. So successful in fact that she was recently awarded the South African Business Woman of the Year 2024
for her work in photography, graphic design, and philanthropy. The awards, organised by Katryn Barwise Celliers, celebrate and reflect the broader impact and influence of women in the business world.
Her entrepreneurial spirit traces back to her upbringing. Karishma’s father was an inspector of schools and her mother was a Head of Department. Despite their demanding careers, her parents, who hailed from a lineage of jewellers, also pursued their passion for jewellery by establishing their own business. “This innovative spirit deeply influenced and instilled in me values such as hard work, perseverance, and creativity. My parents are my biggest supporters who always encouraged me to pursue my studies and follow my dreams,” said Karishma. Her adept business skills and passion for creativity drove her to forge her unique path.
