Acknowledgements
SAPREF has published this book to commemorate and celebrate 50 years of its existence.
The book was conceived and commissioned by the Sustainable Development team and written by Chris Hoare of Partners in Publishing. It was titled by Keith Lawrence from SAPREF’s Procurement department following a staff competition to give the book its title. It was designed by Artworks Communications, printed by Atlas Printers and photography is by Roy Reed Photography, Artworks Communications, Sbu Ndlovu, Steve McCurrach, Partners in Publishing, David Leeney, Bird & Leeney and Charles Bird, among others.
Sincere thanks go to all who made suggestions and contributions, in particular to John Thomson for allowing SAPREF free use of his manuscript on his working life at SAPREF. We are also grateful to the Editorial Advisory team made up of Rodney Youldon, Roshini Hiralal, Malusi Nduzi, Andrew McKay, Eddie Chettiar, Pat Boddy, David Radebe and Baker Moodley. This team ensured that the material in this book is factually accurate. Special thanks are also due to Cindy Govender and Londiwe Myeza for co-ordinating most of the work needed to produce this book.
Putting this book together has been a labour of love. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed compiling it.
