dramatically. In the 1990s SAPREF’s sulphur dioxide emissions were in the region of 50 tonnes per day; however after investment in SRU4 and SCOT technologies in 2002 this was reduced to below 20 tonnes per day, making SAPREF the South African benchmark for refinery sulphur dioxide emissions.
• Fitting double seals on 32 floating-roof tanks to reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds in 1999.
• In 2000 SAPREF established an Environmental Management System based on the ISO 14001 standard and was certified by DNV. We have has since maintained our ISO 14001 certification.
