  We used the HEQC Audit Report, published in 2008, to review how DUT had responded to its recommendations and how it had thus become a different DUT since then.
   a new institutional culture aligned with our values and principles, including a culture of ‘shared responsibility and accountability’.
At DUT, we have been deliberately moving away from the hackneyed and moribund approach or philosophy of education that puts pride in ‘universities of technology educating and training for the workplace’ when workplaces are fast disappearing in South Africa. We took this step further during the period under review. Several education-focused strategic objectives in ENVISION2030 have inspired our new philosophy of education statement that our Senate approved at its 8 March 2023 meeting. Senate’s Report (page 26) contains the details.
This new philosophy will certainly upend our institutional academic culture to one that is outcomes- and impact- oriented. We are no longer proud of just producing graduates (as output), but adaptive ones who will transform society (outcomes and impact). For this to be achieved, our academic staff will have to be a step ahead and have their capacity built to lead our students in that trajectory.
Systems and Processes
Systems and processes is the second of our ‘enabling and effecting’ perspectives. What we describe as the DUT Way is essentially about ‘the right people, in the right seats, performing their roles right’. One way of measuring the
