TQhUeOcTomE mitment and resilience shown by all members of Council and its Committees continued to inspire me as Chairperson of the Council as it happened in 2022, and I thank them once again.

Performance Plan: 2022

The Risk Committee continued to perform its critical oversight of matters of risk. Regular risk reports prepared by Management were received and discussed at Risk Committee meetings. The Risk Committee, just like the Audit and Finance Committees, continues to deal with the new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, which is arguably the largest information technology (IT) project that the university has ever undertaken. Many stakeholders have been involved in working together towards the selection of the new ERP system and what was required to implement a new system aligned with DUT’s ENVISION2030 goals, especially around the systems and processes perspective.
The Human Capital Committee, chaired by the Vice-Chair of Council, ably performed its oversight role in matters relating to Human Resources (HR). The committee recommended a considerable number of policies which were approved by Council at its various meetings.
The university’s financial systems and practices continue to improve, thanks to the guidance and oversight provided by the Finance Committee. As of the end of December 2023 we bid farewell to our old manual systems, with the SAP Graphical User Interface, scheduled to be implemented as of January 2024. The complementary, but independent, role played by the Audit Committee in its oversight of financial controls and others continues to be robust and effective. Evidence of improving financial management and accounting, emboldened by five Chartered Accountants, CA(SA), recently appointed, bears witness to our audit opinion on our Annual Financial Statements: 2023, contained in this Annual Report.
