The highlights for the 2023 consolidated annual financial performance may be seen in the following diagram:
 The highlights for the 2023 consolidated annual financial performance are as follows:
• Unrestricted Council-controlled recurrent income increased by 8.57%, from R2 687.02 million in 2022 to R2 917.40 million in 2023. The student and staff accommodation generated 14.93% more than the 2023 financial year, increasing from R623.11 million in 2022 to R716.12 million in 2023. The specifically-funded (restricted funding) recurrent income increased by 19.53%, from R55.89 million in 2022 to R66.80 million in 2023.
• Unrestricted Council-controlled recurrent expenditure increased by 17.66%, from R2 196.36 million in 2022 to R2 584.25 million in 2023.
• Cash and cash equivalents and other financial assets at year-end increased by 7.74%, from R4 765.67 million in 2022 to R5 134.32 million in 2023.
• There was an increase of 9.96% in the total assets, from R7 878.07 million in 2022 to R8 662.65 million in 2023.
• Total liabilities increased by 14.49%, from R2 177.18 million in 2022 to R2 492.72 million in 2023.
• Accumulated fund increased by 8.23%, from R5 700.89 million in 2022 to R6 169.93 million in 2023.
