ISOLATED INCIDENT
MAJOR INCIDENT/DISASTER
An event that impacts a small part of the university community or physical property, but not affecting the University’s overall functioning
An event that causes extensive damage and seriously impairs or disrupts the overall functioning of the University
• Small localised hazardous material spill
• Civil disturbance (labour unrest/student strikes)
• Small, localised fire
• Severe storm
• Isolated power outage
• Widespread power or water outage
• Violent crime
• Major fire
The above list is not exhaustive, and some incidents may not require a significant level of response. It should also be noted that, although an isolated incident may be considered small or insignificant, it should not be taken lightly. Immediate attention must be given to mitigate the situation as quickly as possible.
The priority is the safety of all individuals involved, including the safety of those directly affected by the incident and of those within the area/vicinity.
