Mother, Pastor, and Author: Nicole Gokul’s Multi-Faceted Life
“Ambition does not require a time limit; you are never too old or too young to achieve your goals.”
Nicole Gokul exemplifies dedication, creativity, and a passion for shaping young minds. As a Human Resources graduate, Nicole’s journey has transcended conventional career paths. Nicole juggles her roles as a businesswoman, ordained pastor, and published author. Her latest endeavour, writing children’s educational books, represents a significant milestone in her career. Her new children’s book business is called Cole Creations Kids. She also owns and runs Cole Creations and Novelty Cakes, a home-based bakery that serves cakes and children’s parties.
Roots of Inspiration
Nicole’s upbringing in a loving Christian family of six in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, played a vital role in shaping her ambitions. Her father, now a retired police captain, and her mother, an author, encouraged creativity and emphasised the importance of education. As the eldest of four siblings, Nicole credits her parents for instilling a strong work ethic and a drive to pursue meaningful goals.
Her time at DUT provided the foundation for her multifaceted career. Studying Human Resource Management equipped her with business acumen, time management skills, and the ability to work with diverse people.While at university, Nicole balanced her studies with promotional work and even participated in advertisements and films, including Mr. Bones and Florida Road.
“I appreciated the diversity of the college,” Nicole recalls about her time at DUT, “I enjoyed our business management lectures.”
A Life of Balance and Purpose
Nicole balances professional ambition and personal commitment. She homeschools her three children, drawing inspiration from their milestones to create her educational books. Her daily routine blends parenting, writing, and community service.As an ordained pastor, she and her husband host community meetings to motivate and inspire youth. Nicole’s life philosophy of “Commit your plans to God, work hard, and let your light shine” drives her success. She considers publishing her children’s books her greatest career milestone, as it allows her to leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
Looking Ahead
With six published books since June 2024, Nicole remains committed to expanding her children’s educational series. She emphasises the importance of focusing on one’s strengths and encourages today’s youth to pursue their passions with determination.
Nicole’s move into children’s literature stems from a deep-seated passion for learning and nurturing young minds. Some of the educational books Nicole has designed to provide foundational knowledge to children are:
