         DUT LIBRARY’S BOOK CLUB YOUTH TALENT
Plessis, a lecturer in the DUT Faculty of Management Sciences and Pastor Sihle Yeni, the founder of El-Betel Worldwide Ministries International, were the special guests. Under the direction of Romeo Matumba, DUT’s Librarian: Marketing and Communication, the programme was run by third-year LIS student Tamara Ntombenhle Sima under the direction of Romeo Matumba, DUT’s Librarian: Marketing and Communication.
Prince Mchunu, the Book Club Chairperson and a third-year LIS student, spoke of the event’s purpose and offered the audience a preview of what to expect throughout the programme. His introduction led to a debate with two student teams and the audience on ‘Integrating Indigenous Languages into Teaching, Learning’. Guest speaker, Yachal Du Plessis provided an perceptive review of the topic, commenting on points raised by both teams and addressing questions from the audience.
Third-year LIS student and Book Club Project Manager, Busiso Mpanza, gave a closing statement, thanking the book club organisers, library administration and employees, event sponsors, and the audience, whose enthusiastic participation made the day unforgettable.The library’s unwavering dedication to encouraging a reading and writing culture within the DUT community is reflected in this event.
CUTTING-EDGE IDEAS FOR LIBRARY TRANSFORMATION

On Friday, June 14, 2024, the DUT Library Book Club celebrated Youth Month with a fantastic talent event in Mansfield Hall. Poetry recitals, voice- overs, R&B, hip-hop, soprano, and an Amapiano dance challenge were among the many captivating acts that attracted a sizable and eager audience.
Throughout the evening, the lively banter, captivating commentary and singing of the dynamic MCs Ayanda and Uhlanya kept the crowd enthralled and entertained. Featured performers were soprano singers Khaya Mamba and Thanduxolo Mqadi, along with Puleng Phakathi for voiceover, comic performers Moemiesh and Prince the Comedian, and the well-known local Gqom and Amapiano trio Triple Batallions. The book club talent event promoted social bonding at DUT Library.
Additionally, second-year students from the Faculty of Arts and Design enhanced the occasion with their involvement. As part of the event’s art displays, gifted youngsters displayed their photography and artwork, giving the occasion a lively and creative touch. Red Bull SA supported the event by supplying drinks for both musicians and attendees, which heightened the exciting mood. Certificates of appreciation were given to the performers at the conclusion of the event in recognition of their significant contributions to its success.
INDIGENOUS LANGUAGE INTEGRATION AND THE POWER OF LITERATURE
The DUT Library Book Club honoured the power of literature and championed the integration of indigenous languages at an event on Friday, November 1 at the BM Patel Library.The DUT Library Book Club Book presented evaluations and a discussion about incorporating indigenous languages into research, teaching, learning, and library services. Library Innovation Day. Library staff and four Work Integrated Learning students from the Library and Information Science programme shared innovative ideas, methods, and recommendations to improve library services. The occasion provided a forum for the discussion of creative concepts that might change the way the library functions, emphasisng sustainability, staff capacity, and user experience. Mr Sagren Moodley, Manager of Information Systems and Resources, facilitated the event. The event encouraged participants to explore fresh ideas for both existing and future services.
Mr Nhlanhla Nhleko, Manager: Campus Library and Sites, expressed appreciation for the valuable ideas and efforts showcased during the event. “There is no idea that is too small, all ideas are equally important in contributing to the improvement of the library,” reflected Mr Nhleko. He applauded the presenters, mentors and facilitators for their commitment to driving the library’s innovation agenda forward.The DUT Library Innovation Day displayed the creativity and progressiveness of DUT library staff and students. The proposals presented during the event enhance existing services but also guarantee that the library continues to progress into a SMART, sustainable, inclusive, open, and growing library.
