Research writing retreat (workshop B)
The Research Writing Retreat Programme is designed
to provide support and assistance to novice researchers and aims to assist with presenting research results in
a way that encourages swift and efficient publication
in an accredited journal. The workshop is a two-phase workshop. Phase 1 focuses on introducing participants to article layout, presentation of results and developing the first draft. Phase 2 – participants are expected to present a draft article and finalise it for submission to a journal
for publication. It is a five-day workshop focusing on the polishing of the draft article. Facilitators also critically assess the presentation of an article for publication from a reviewer’s perspective

The workshop aims to assist postgraduate students to better understand literature review, develop strategies and tools to use when writing up their literature review. The key focus areas of the workshop include:
• Organising your literature
• Strategies to improve reading skills
• Developing your academic voice
• Summarising, synthesising and analysing arguments by
different authors
• Types of literature review (narrative, systematic,
argumentative, integrative and theoretical literature review)
