STUDENT ENROLMENT
The University’s Enrolment Plan had caused the University not to grow in numbers, but rather to restructure its enrolments and, in particular, to strive towards increasing its intake of students in the Natural and Business Sciences spheres, while limiting its intake of students in the Humanities, and, even more so, in Education.
Student registration trends up to 2020 include the following, among others:
• The overwhelming majority of students are officially classified as South Africans, followed by relatively small numbers of
foreigners and the South African minority groups.
• The University enrolled 7 378 male students, 9 759 female students and six other students during the year under review.
Female students outnumbered male students by 2 381.
Although statistics in respect of the official category of less-abled students are not recorded to the same extent as those of other students, the University has made provision for this category of students to be represented on the SRC and the Institutional Forum Table 32-33 illustrates student size and composition of the student body according to the level of study, race and gender and graduation statistics.
