  Dr Felicia Omolara Afolabi
Department of Chemical Engineering
Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment
Felicia Afolabi recently graduated with her doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering. Her research was part of a bigger project funded by the South African National Research Foundation (NRF).
The research activities aimed to find sustainable and eco-friendly solutions for the removal of heavy metals commonly found in South African water, which are detrimental to life. To this end, a selected number of readily available and low-cost bio-waste adsorbents such as orange and banana peels were explored. This research work also aligns with DUT Envision 2030 to improve the efficiency of resource utilisation and decrease environmental risk. Her research work has
received the best paper presentation award at International Conference on Green Technologies for Sustainable Development (GTSD-2021) and the best oral presenter at the 11th Annual SAIChE KZN Research (2019). Her research interests include water and wastewater treatment, environmental remediation, bio-waste valorisation, biological wastewater treatment and Process Optimization.
“Her research work has received the best paper presentation award at International Conference on Green Technologies for Sustainable Development (GTSD-2021) and the best oral presenter at the 11th Annual SAIChE KZN Research (2019). ”
