Based on current DUT tuition fees, if each of the 42 partner universities sends two students on a semester exchange, the resulting direct tuition income (excluding accommodation) would amount to R1,572,375.00 per semester. This reflects a projected return on investment of approximately 196.5% from tuition fees alone.
Strategic Impact: Strategically, the congress reinforced DUT’s leadership in sustainability education and its commitment to intra- African collaboration. Ties were further strengthened with the Namibia University of Science and Technology, and DUT actively promoted the African Partnership Universities Alliance, which supports Africa-centred internationalization and collaborative research. Through its participation and new partnerships, DUT reaffirmed its position as a leading institution in global sustainability, innovation, and higher education transformation.
DUT’s strategic engagement in both national and international collaborations underscores its commitment to fostering innovation, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing its global presence. Through partnerships with leading industry stakeholders, academic institutions, and international organizations, DUT is actively contributing to advancements in areas such as renewable energy, space science, and peace education. These collaborations not only provide valuable opportunities for staff and students but also align with DUT’s ENVISION2030 strategy and the broader goals of sustainable development in Africa and beyond. The university’s active participation in global forums, such as the Times Higher Education Global Sustainable Development Congress, further solidifies its position as a leading institution in higher education transformation.
2.5.2 Student and Faculty Exchange Programmes
The Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics has also deepened international collaboration through a partnership with Ecole Spéciale des Travaux Publics, du Bâtiment et de l’Industrie (ESTP Paris). This agreement has enabled French students to enrol in selected modules within DUT’s Bachelor of Engineering Technology programme in Civil Engineering. Four French students who enrolled in 2024 have completed their final assessments and are scheduled to return to France in June 2025.This collaboration enhances academic exchange and contributes to the strengthening of ties between DUT and European academic institutions.
The Department for Public Management and Economics participated in a staff mobility programme at the University of Public Service in Hungary in April and May 2025. This initiative strengthened institutional ties and facilitated professional and academic exchange. The department engaged in teaching and learning facilitation, training sessions, panel discussions, and research collaborations.Topics covered included public sector conflict and negotiations, leadership and professionalism, and disaster and risk management.
DUT is currently finalising a Memorandum of Understanding with GANOAT University in India, aimed at expanding DUT’s international academic network and fostering new collaborative opportunities.
As part of the Erasmus+ KA171 Exchange Programme, three DUT students have been nominated for a semester exchange at JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Finland. The selected students have completed the application process and are awaiting formal acceptance for the Autumn 2025 intake. The programme will provide a well-rounded academic experience, exposure to
