participation in national innovation platforms such as the South African Innovation Summit is being evaluated, with discussions underway to identify suitable alternatives for showcasing DUT innovations.
The GISU/DUT innovation competition will see TTI promoting their services across campuses, while also supporting Innobiz DUT and Enactus in meeting their competition-related deliverables.
Through these diverse activities, DUT continues to demonstrate its commitment to research excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship, and community engagement as integral components of its vision and mission.
Looking ahead, the Community Engagement at DUT is well- positioned to further enhance its impact on the communities it serves. The future will focus on expanding and strengthening the reach of existing initiatives while introducing new programmes that cater to evolving educational and social needs.
Key areas of focus will include increasing engagement with more schools, particularly in remote and underserved regions, to ensure that the benefits of DUT’s programmes are accessible to a broader population. Strengthening collaborations with faculties, departments, and external partners will remain a priority, as these partnerships are vital to sustaining and scaling the programmes effectively.
The integration of technology into community engagement initiatives will play a crucial role in broadening access to education and career guidance.Virtual workshops, online learning resources, and digital platforms will be explored to engage learners, educators, and volunteers from diverse locations. This approach will not only overcome geographical barriers but also enable continuous engagement beyond in-person events.
Additionally, the university will continue to foster innovation in its educational programmes, with a particular focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. As the demand for skilled professionals in these fields grows, DUT will expand its efforts to inspire and equip learners with the skills needed to succeed in a rapidly changing job market.
The focus on environmental sustainability will also grow, with more initiatives addressing climate change awareness and green technologies. By integrating sustainability into community outreach, DUT aims to nurture a generation of learners who are well- prepared to tackle global environmental challenges.
Ultimately, the future outlook for community engagement at DUT is one of continued growth, innovation and positive social impact. By addressing challenges, seizing opportunities and adapting to the changing needs of students and communities, the university will strengthen its role as a leader in educational transformation and community empowerment.
