Durban’s ocean playground
Durban is one of the few cities in the world that offers world-class surfing waves right on its doorstep. Epic ‘beach break’ surf conditions can be found along the entire Durban beachfront, particularly at New Pier, North Beach and Battery Beach. For more experienced surfers, the Bluff and North Coast offers powerful reef breaks, and the South Coast is home to some world-class point breaks.
Other ocean activities that can be enjoyed are swimming, fishing, jetskiing, snorkelling, canoeing, windsurfing and kite surfing. Durban’s mild all-year- round climate and 19°C-24°C water temperature make it a summer AND winter holiday destination.
Munch a ‘bunny chow’
The bunny chow, a hollowed out loaf of bread filled with curry, is Durban’s most famous culinary invention, and no visit to the city is complete without sampling one. They’re sold at almost every corner cafe and take-away.
