ASSAGY ENVIRONMENTAL:

Helashini Moodley is the founder and CEO of Assagy Environmental, a 100% black female-owned environmental consulting firm based in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The company offers a wide range of services, including health and safety, environmental compliance monitoring, and plant hire.
Moodley started Assagy Environmental in 2012 after being retrenched from her job as an environmental officer. She was pregnant at the time and faced
discrimination from potential employers. But she refused to give up on her dream of starting her own business.
“I knew that I had the skills and experience to be successful,” Moodley said. “So I took a leap of faith and started my own company.”
Assagy Environmental has grown steadily over the past 10 years. The company now has two employees and a turnover of R2.6 million. Moodley is also a certified construction health and safety agent and is planning to expand the company’s services to include water quality sampling and testing, soil sampling and testing, land rehabilitation, and GIS mapping.
Moodley credits her success to her hard work, dedication, and commitment to providing quality services. She is also a strong advocate for women in business and is a mentor to several aspiring entrepreneurs.
“I want to show other women that it is possible to achieve their dreams,” Moodley said. “No matter what challenges you face, don’t give up on your dreams.”
