Love and Generosity Prevail at AARU Valentine’s Movie Night Fundraiser
The magic of love and the power of giving were in full bloom at the recent Valentine’s Movie Night Fundraiser hosted by the DUT Advancement and Alumni Relations Unit (AARU), held to support alumni-owned businesses. On 24 February 2024, the DUT community gathered at the Suncoast Cine Centre for an evening filled with love and philanthropy.
The event kicked off with a few hiccups where traffic was gridlocked around the Suncoast Casino area. Due to this unforeseen circumstance the event time was delayed considerably. Upon arrival guests were greeted with smiles and the AARU team was overwhelmed with the empathy and understanding received from all attendees about the delay.
Speaking on the event, Mr Zwakele Ngubane, Advancement and Alumni Relations Director, said:“Beyond the allure of cinematic entertainment, the AARU fundraiser was a testament to the incredible generosity of our alumni community.Through ticket sales we were able to build the pool of funds to support alumni- owned businesses. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a meaningful contribution.” he said.
As the credits rolled and the evening ended, there was a profound sense of satisfaction knowing that everyone had come together to support a worthy cause. From the conversations shared over popcorn to the laughter echoing throughout the venue, it was evident that the spirit of love and generosity prevailed in every aspect of the event.
“As we reflect on the success of our Valentine’s Movie Night Fundraiser, we’re filled with gratitude for the unwavering support of our alumni community. Together, we have demonstrated the power of unity, compassion, and collective action in making a
positive impact on the lives of others–a true representation of ENVISON2030. As we look ahead, let us continue to nurture these bonds and strive towards creating a brighter future for all,” said Ngubane.
Alumni Relations Co-ordinator, Ronelle Lyson gave a heartfelt thank you to everyone who had attended, volunteered, donated, and helped make the Valentine’s Movie Night Fundraiser a resounding success.
“Your kindness and generosity have truly made a difference, and we look forward to continuing this journey of support and collaboration in the days to come. Until next time, let love guide us and generosity inspire us as we work together to uplift and empower our alumni community,” she said.
