ATTRACTIONS
Revamping of the amphitheatre is currently underway near Umlazi Mega City. The first phase, accommodating a 5000-seater is due for completion by September 2023. The facilities projected to become the arts and culture precinct and host of the community TV station.
Traditional medicine encompasses culture and workings of ancestors, it is essential that traditional healers and muthi traders are included tourist experience. The semi processed and unprocessed roots are harvested from the eNgonyameni area and the market has over 100 traders whom some are third generation trading as indigenous healers. The market was made famous by researchers as the first exotic aloe naturalised in South Africa in 1994.
Prepared in a secret recipe by the elderly owner, this is one of the Umlazi township taste you cannot miss. Over the years crocodile meat has become one of those “must do” experience and it has become very popular in Umlazi. Set at the intersection just before you take off to Nelson Mandela Drive through to eNgonyameni not too far from How long Park, this is one cuisine you cannot afford to not taste.
This Park was founded by Mr Michael Fana Mlangeni in 1976. Throughout the years he maintained and improved the park without financial assistance. In 1998 the Municipality employed Mlangeni as caretaker in the park, but when he reached retirement age, he used his pension to enhance the park and continues to watch over it.
