reserve status. Following this a number of biodiversity assessments will be conducted as part of an audit of faunal and floral richness and diversity on the site, management plans for the reserve will then need to be developed and finally a submission to the MEC for formal proclamation and gazetting will be made through EKZNW.
While this process is running however, Steve and his band of volunteers have been incredibly busy within the reserve boundaries clearing alien invasive plants, reestablishing and maintaining walking paths, fighting fires and patrolling for snares. To date the team have cleared well over 400 gums, wattles and bugweed from the identified area of the reserve and hundreds of square metres of lantana and triffid weed. Paths damaged in the April 2022 floods have also been repaired and the network of routes allows one to amble through the grasslands and forested gorges.
