 student Senate Renews Student Activities
For the Student Senate, 1987 marks a new and exciting beginning. With a new coordinator, Mr. Fix, and a representative body consisting of many newly elected officials, this year’s outlook is indeed refresh ing. It is the hope of all students that this year will be even better than the last one.
Last year was an ambivalent year for the student senate. Although participation in the meetings was not overwhelmingly encouraging the senate managed to bring back Pep Rallies to the school.
Thisyear, incontrast, was.Manyproposalsarose were considered by senate officials. The student sen ate announced the return o f winter week, a prideful event that was cancelled last year due to student vio lence.
We are in the process of obtaining authorization to have our cafeteria repainted and refurnished to en hance the mood of the students mid-day break. With a large surplus of funds in the senate treasury, who knows what interesting and valuable improvements and activities can be created to make our students days brighter.
An immediate problem facing the Student Senate seems to be that of student participation. President Eric Baca pointed out that the major task of the pre sent representatives was not on the funding side but on thesideofgettingstudentstovolunteerforthevarious senate sponsored activities. The senate existed for all students and their participation was what was needed
to make the senate a true representative of the student body as a whole.
