The 1986 Varsity Football season was a time of transition, which saw many new changes from last year’s
undefeated championship team. First-year coach Matt Steenberg guided a young, but talented group o f Brothers through a tough schedule and finished with a very respectable 3-5 record.
The offense, led by sophomore quarterback, Bobby Campbell,
proved they were a force to be reck oned with early on in the season, crushing arch-rival Bishop Ludden 48-0. Linemen Tom Anderson, John Schaap, Joe Adornato, Ken Fifield and Matt Izzo openned up gapping holes for runningbacks Dave Stirpe, Marty Coyne and sophomore Dar rell Gladden.
This year’s defense was led by sen ior linebacker Marty Coyne/ Other seniors contributing to the team’s ef fort were Jim Burns, Tony Silvag- gio, John Schaap and Tom Ander son and linebackers Dave Stirpe and Rich Pfohl. The secondary team
was led by sophomores Chris Nel son, Darrell Gladden and John Haas.
