The C.B.A. Varsity and J.V. baseball teams com
pleted their highly successful 1977 season by
winning the C.N.Y.C.L. championship at their
respective levels.
The Varsity, under the guidance of first year
coach Pete Birmingham, rolled up an impres
sive overall record of 17-6-1 while finishing
first in the Cities League. The Brothers were led
by five all-city players including outfielders
Steve Raschella (.378) and Dan Kelly (.326),
catcher Dennis Kelly, pitcher Mike Zamba (9-1,
0.64 Era), and team M.V.P. Pat Murphy who hit
.438 at first base and won five games as a
pitcher.
The Junior Varsity team won the C.N.Y.C.L. j.V.
title while compiling a 15-4 record under the
coaching of Jim Rommel. The Championship
was won dramatically on the final day of the
season when the Brothers scored five last
inning runs to defeat Corcoran 6-5.
1977 could be the start of a bigger and better
baseball program at C.B.A. and for this con
gratulations must go to the members of both
teams.
