Seniors sweep chess championship
Never a dull moment. The first annual CBA chess Tournament which spanned the academic year provided continuous chal lenges for each of the twenty seven entrants. After all the games had been played and the results were calculated Chairman, Tim Adams and Steve Milligan found themselves co-champions as a result of a last round draw.
Adams, who finished in a tie for third place in the New York State Championship, overcame an earlier upset to George Bour- delais while Milligan, who finished with a 3-- record in the States survived a loss tojerry Mingolelli. The title match, which was the last one of the tournament, saw Adams take an early two pawn
lead before Milligan battled back to earn a share of the cham pionship.
Other standouts in this Senior dominated activity included George Bourdelais, Jim McNeill, Andy Leja and Alan Clark. Besides the school tournament, many Chess Club members have set their sights on the 1982 State Championships. Previously, CBA finished ninth in a field of fifteen teams.
What has caused the resurgence of Chess in the past two years? Perhaps there comes a feeling of satisfaction which even the losing player can enjoy in chess.
