What Difference Does It Make?
tarfish. Ring a bell? On Friday, October 2, the Junior
class attended a retreat in Alverna Heights. Carefully
Scoordinated by Mrs. Uva, the retreat conveyed an un
derlying message which became the theme of the day. It was
the story of a man who threw starfish back into the sea. V/hen
questioned why he bothered, because he couldn't possibly make
a difference, he replied, "It makes a difference to this one."
Each member of the Class of 1994 pondered the importance
of this fable. No matter how small an act of kindness seems,
it makes a difference to the person on the receiving end. In
this way, we are very much like the starfish.
Although numerous activities helped to bring the Juniors
closer together, the closing mass had the biggest impact on
us. We were forced to look into a mirror and see ourselves
for what we were, and were asked to see ourselves as others
saw us. Looking into that mirror, we realized that we were not
as bad as we might have thought, and that we have come a
long way since our freshman year.
