Too Young for Major Upsets,
JV Football Still Makes the Grade
It’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it. Being the JV Football coach at CBA, or any school for that matter, is tough because one always has to Dlay second-fiddle to the varsity. This Tieans less fan support at the games, ess financial support for equipment, and, most importantly, the loss of key alayers to the varsity ranks. Coach iiike Bockheim was blessed with an njury-free season, but was cursed by i frustrating lack of quality players lue to sophomore stars such as
Marty Coyne and David Stirpe be ing promoted to the varsity squad.
However, Coach Bockheim pulled his scrappy troops together and managed to put together a re spectable record of 3-4. This hard work and perseverance culminated in
an impressive 8-7 victory over a for midable New Hartford squad. This was due to the fact that the Brothers controlled both offensive and defen sive lines. In this game, tackles Tony Silvaggio and John Schaap and line
backers Matt izzo and Dave Buzzeiii anchored the defense. The offense was paced by quarterback Scott Laba and running backs Jason Cooke and Richard Pfohl.
Coach Bockheim commented, “ The prospects for next season look good. We have a lot of experienced players returning and there are some really talented players in the eighth
grade.” He just hopes that they will be around to play for him.
