By all appearances, a 7-7 season would suggest disappointment for fresh man basketball coach, Gary Barnaba. Not so, says the veteran basketball, ten nis, and wrestling coach and Athletic Di rector. ‘‘When you consider the fact that five of the seven losses were by a com
bined total of nine points, the program is a lot healthier than you think,” observed Mr. Barnaba. In fact, with 3 returning players from the Middle School squad — Greg Aumiller, Nelson Whitmore, and Jeff SMvaggio — and strong con tributions by most improved players Dave Michaud and Mike Mertens, it was clear by season’s end that the pro gram had accomplished what it set out to do — train the younger players for the next two levels of basketball.
There were, of course, important mi lestones along the way — the 18 point win over arch-rival Bishop Ludden — a lead that was maintained throughout the contest — and a tough 56-57 loss at the buzzer against J-D which encouraged the freshmen Brothers to keep up their concentration throughout a see-saw season.
