While Ga ney isn’t as closely connected to the Festival Edition in her role as executive director, she admits to being an avid reader who, from time to time shares ideas with publicity director Ann and publicity co-ordi- nator Amy, both of whom collaborate with the Beacon Herald editorial sta .
“The edition is part of the Festival experi- ence,” she said. “Visitors come from all over Canada, the U.S. and the world, and stay here for a few days or more. So they often have time to sit back, relax, and have a cup of co ee or tea while reading through the publication.
“They’re not frantically dashing about with a deadline of getting back to work hanging over their heads. They crave information about the Festival, so the edition serves that purpose in an entertaining and informative fashion. Reading about an actor like Seana McKenna, who they’ve seen and admired in many roles over the years, makes them feel like they know her personally.”
Proud of the participants profiled, Festival stories being written and those producing the edition, she is often surprised by the content.
“Stories often reveal an angle of which I was unaware,” she said. “That’s fun and why the edition is so special. It is such a very good compendium of the season.”
For the newspaper’s managing editor, pro- ducing the Festival Edition gives him and the Beacon Herald’s sta the opportunity to flex its journalistic, creative and artistic muscles all at once every year.
“I hope the supplement, by telling these stories and providing a nuanced exploration of each season, helps create a connection between its readers and the creativity and art- istry of the Stratford Festival,” said Urquhart.
“By delving into some of the stories that normally aren’t told – a look at stage combat, for example, or the training regimen of the Festival’s dancers – I think we’re also showing the hard work and commitment for this level of theatre.”
It’s a publication that we at
The Beacon Herald are very proud of.”
