Introduction
In 2004 the University of South Africa (UNISA) embarked on a campaign to empower the alumni in the service of the institution. The University remains committed to establishing a lifelong relationship and partnership with its alumni.
To establish this relationship with its former students, Unisa implemented various initiatives. One such measure involves creating alumni chapters in regions with a significant concentration of Unisa alumni.
An alumni chapter is overseen by a convenor who resides in the area or country where a chapter is established. A convenor, an alumnus, is elected during a formal election conducted by the Alumni Relations Office for the alumni in that region. (which may include a specific country, province or district).
The Alumni Relations Office manages the budget and financial matters of alumni chapters. Any alumni activities, whether or not they involve financial implications, must be coordinated with the Alumni Relations Manager for guidance and approval.
