a VP), one can see what we have achieved at the college. This further draws the attention and serves as motivation for other female academics within the college to see that there is an example even at a higher level beyond that of a dean; who is doing what is expected of them as a scholar while fulfilling their leadership duties. We will continue on the footprints that Prof Meyiwa has set. While it’s sad to see her leave the university, but her departure is testament to the fact that women academics are equally capable of becoming vice chancellors of universities. The research rankings of Unisa have more than doubled since she took over the VP research space, rising to the unprecedented number 6 position in the country.
As we draw nearer to the close of the year, I am looking forward to the finale; wherein more women in the college get their NRF ratings or even subject themselves to applying for NRF ratings, and for them to take the next steps of being able to apply for research grants and get industry partnerships coming through so that industries are in turn made aware that the generation of knowledge extends beyond male academics. We celebrate not only women academic staff but the contributions made by our female administrative staff in this college does not go unnoticed. They are very dedicated and go beyond their call of duty. If we can invest more in our women, we have a great future in store for society. We need to nurture and grow our timber and remain gender open minded.
An so, in this month of August and throughout the year, we celebrate women in the college and their achievements. They are an important pillar within the College of science, Engineering and Technology!
