Graduations CSET saw a total of 38 PhD and 66 Masters students graduating in 2019 Proud supervisor Professor Thabo Nkambule (NanoWS) (right) with his very rst PhD student, Dr Savia Marais. Her Supervisors were Bhekie Mamba and Prof Thabo Nkambule The College of Science, Engineering and Technology wishes to congratulate Dr Mmakwena M Mmonwa (33) and Dr Marole M Maluleka (29) for completing their doctoral degrees within the minimum prescribed period of three years. They were under the supervision of Prof MJ Mphahlele (FRSC) from the Department of Chemistry. Dr Mmonwa joined Unisa for his MSc and PhD studies and has ve scienti c papers in high-pro le international journals and two book chapters to his name. Dr Maluleka completed her undergraduate and doctoral degrees through Unisa and has to date published 19 scienti c papers and a book chapter. Mr Dlamini gradated for his MTech Engineering. Prof Mamba and Dr Kholiswa Yokwana who graduated for her PhD in Chemistry during the graduation ceremony held on 15 November 2019. The College salutes Dr Ralph Muvhiiwa for completing his PhD. Ralph Muvhilwa’s doctoral studies were supervised by Dr Celestin Sempuga and Prof Diane Hildebrandt from the Institute for the Development of Energy for African Sustainability. His thesis in Chemical Engineering presents a tool for analysing biomass conversion to gaseous products in general, whether microbial or thermal. Congratulations to Dr Patricia Gouws (ISET project leader/ in the School of Computing) With Dr Nomcebo Mthombeni is Dr Tumelo Seadira, who completed his PhD. Halala Dr Seadira. Dr Gerhard Gericke with his supervisors Prof Shivani Mishra and Prof Bhekie Mamba during the graduation ceremony held on 15 November 2019. Dr Gericke graduated for his PhD in Physics. His PhD thesis was entitled “The Impact, Characterisation and Fate of NOM in Surface Water: A Perspective from South African Power Industry”. Dr Kholiswa Yokwana and her supervisors Prof Bhekie Mamba, Prof Sabelo Mhlanga and Prof Edward Nxumalo during the graduation ceremony held on 15 November 2019. Dr Gericke graduated for his PhD in Chemistry. Her PhD thesis was entitled “Graphene Oxide -based Nanoadsorbents for Water Puri cation Applications”. 7
