Balanced Mind & Healthy Body
Most chronic illnesses are linked to
a lack of nutrition and a stressful
lifestyle. These two factors have
always been intertwined, and
people who eat a healthy, balanced
diet are often far less stressed
than those who eat a poor one.
If you are feeling overly stressed,
your digestive system is probably
under a great deal of strain, and a
balanced and varied diet could be
the key to feeling better physically
and emotionally.
Food Matters:
Food can be classified according to
many criteria. One of them is on
the basis of the food’s pH within
the body – whether acidic or
alkaline. There are enzymes in the
food we eat which can affect our
metabolism. More and more people
around the world are suffering
from illnesses and diseases
associated with high-fat, high-
cholesterol, chemically enhanced,
nutrient-depleted foods, alongside
environmental pollutants, stress,
and our tendency to rely overly on
medications.
Acid/Alkaline Foods:
Cells in the body require a tightly
controlled pH level of about 7.4
(a slightly alkaline range of 7.35
to 7.45) to survive. Eating an
alkaline diet or taking alkaline food
supplements could help reduce
morbidity and mortality from the
chronic diseases that plague our
aging population.
Enzymes:
Enzymes are proteins that have
a catalytic function indispensable
to the maintenance and activity
of life. They function in a mild
environment similar to the
body environment of a living
organism, and they support life
by synthesizing and degrading
the materials that constitute the
building blocks of the organism,
and by creating energy. Food is the
only way we can provide our body
with its nutritional needs.
No matter where you are from
or what your age is, everyone
requires the same basic nutritional
components for a healthy body.
Nutrition can be split into three
categories: macronutrients,
micronutrients, and phytonutrients.
Macronutrients:
Basic nutrition is composed of
four main macronutrients: protein,
fat, carbohydrates and fibre.
Proteins are the body’s building
blocks – they help our cells to grow
and repair themselves. Fat stores
energy for the long term and is
also a great barrier for our cells and
body.
Micronutrients:
In addition to macronutrients, we
need micronutrients – vitamins
and minerals. We call these “micro”
because we need them in much
smaller quantities every day,
even though they play a big role
in the body. Micronutrients and
macronutrients are interdependent.
But we need a larger variety
of micronutrients – more than
20 – to complement the four
macronutrients. Micronutrients
perform hundreds of roles in the
body to sustain life. Our body can
manufacture only some vitamins;
others can only be obtained
from specific foods or specific
combinations of foods. Minerals
can be obtained exclusively from
foods. It takes a lot of effort
and variety in our diet to get the
optimal daily amount of vitamins
and minerals.
Phytonutrients:
Phytonutrients are organic
components found in plants.
Fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes,
nuts and teas are all rich sources of
phytonutrients. They help protect
plants from germs, fungi and other
threats. And when absorbed by
our bodies, phytonutrients can
contribute to our wellbeing and
keep our bodies working properly.
We should all eat a greater variety
of colourful fruits and vegetables
to gain the greatest benefits
from phytonutrients. The more
we learn about how our bodies
work, the more we understand
how critical it is to support them
with proper nutrition. Without
proper nutrition, our bodies cannot
grow, heal, or generate healthy
new cells at optimal levels. We
are also much more vulnerable to
diseases like cancer, heart disease,
diabetes, and other degenerative
illnesses. To function optimally, our
bodies need vitamins and minerals.
Sadly, our bodies are not capable
of producing most vitamins and
minerals independently, which
is why we rely on our diets to
meet our needs. Vitamin or
mineral deficiencies can lead to
illness. DXN Europe is dedicated
