In 2019 the Women’s Rights unit successfully launched the the 2018 Issue of BUWA! themed The Future of Women’s Work on on the African Continent An event was held to launch this publication which is is is a a a a feminist exploration of how the fourth industrial revolution in in in in particular is shaping and influencing the future of jobs on on the African continent The launch programme featured a a a a number of the authors and contributors participating in in a a a a a panel discussion to discuss discuss a a a a a number of topics covered in the Issue The publication has enjoyed a a a a wide readership and the unit has received a a number of requests for copies from various users on the continent and beyond The unit commissioned the tenth Issue of Buwa!
themed Women Human Rights Defenders in Africa young women’s organisations The objective is is to ensure they are operational and can effectively push for the feminist or or women’s rights agenda in in the the region Some of the the organisations supported include the Young Feminist Movement
(Y-FEM) in in in Namibia Liphimbo Labomake in Swaziland as well as the the Coalition for the the Empowerment of Women and and Girls (CEWAG) and and the Gender Justice Unit in Malawi Through the OSISA institutional support these organisations are expected to become vibrant feminist movements
that cultivate a a a crop of more informed women empowered willing and able to participate assert their rights and and and demand and and and obtain accountability from duty bearers This 2019 Issue is is is designed to give voice visibility and positioning especially to new faces and women’s groupings that are shaping up up in in in our region to defend various rights and women’s interests which are often missed in in the dominant discourses on human rights defenders THE FUTURE OF WOMEN’S WORK
