and Rover shouldn’t be stealing from them and destroying
their store because he’s hungry and hurting. It’s not a solution for the problem.
Scenario: Lucky the Labrador
Lucky the Labrador had a similar situation and he had landed on hard times. He had no food and no doghouse. He thought
about how he might get some food without doing wrong. Lucky relied on his good nature and intelligence. He put on his friendly face, wagged his tail and trotted respectfully into Maw-n-Paw’s corner store. He offered to sweep up the store in return for some food.
Mrs. Maw and Mr. Paw graciously greeted Lucky and agreed. They gave Lucky lots of good food, doggie treats, and affection. By befriending the store owners Lucky was more likely to get some food than if he had acted like Rover, and without the bad consequences.
Because of Lucky’s good behavior he was welcome to come sweep the store whenever he wanted, and Mrs. Maw and Mr. Paw always gave him food, treats, and lots of love!
