FORT IRWIN, Calif. — More than 200 U.S. Army families took advantage of a unique dental opportunity provided by United Concordia Dental at Fort Irwin on Nov. 15-19. A mobile dental unit tour bus, specifically outfitted with x-ray capabilities and three operatory stations, provided routine dental care to enhance Fort Irwin’s dental capabilities.
According to Courtney Dickinson, Senior Business Systems Analyst, United Concordia Dental recognized last spring that Fort Irwin had lost their network dentist, “So we offered to send a mobile unit out to fill that gap, we’re bringing the care directly to you,” she said.
A total of 16 United Concordia Dental staff members provided dental cleanings, exams and routine care for the Fort Irwin community and will return in December for follow-up care and regular scheduled appointments, however, “We are completely booked for that event as well,” said Dickinson.
The United Concordia Dental mobile unit began touring the country in 2017, serving at Fort Greely in Alaska and National Guard Installations in Laramie and Guernsey, Wyoming. In the last 12 months, the mobile dental unit has served approximately 600 service members.
“It’s nice and rewarding to be able to do something for our military families. We’re here to serve our military,” said Dickinson.

During the broadcast, the “Painted Rocks” landmark was featured by Molly Rose, anchor and moderator for the show.
“Tradition, unit pride, we were here!” Rose said. “Those sentiments are em- bodied by a Fort Irwin landmark known as Painted Rocks. Soldiers from visiting combat units paint their proud insignia on the boulders.”

FORT IRWIN, Calif. — During a moment in time when some say they feel stressed and alone, the Protestant Women of the Chapel (PWOC) hosted a Women’s Worship Night on Nov. 17 at the Center Chapel.
Four members of PWOC and one Chaplain lead the group in song and devotions. Chaplain Matthew Woodside played guitar and his wife Amy was on the keyboard, accompanying singers Cressida Dranker and Stefanie Cole.
During the devotional period, Chelsea Kennedy, a resident of Fort Irwin, spoke on how to rely on God to overcome fear of man and doubt.
“Fear of judgement and vulnerability would
cause me to put up barriers with other women,” Kennedy said. “To not let them know who I really was because they all seemed to have it together. From the outside looking in, they looked like the perfect mom, the perfect wife, as if they never struggled with anything.”
Lauren Banks, a PWOC leader, announced her In-reach, Out-reach program encouraging everyone to be extra-intentional to bring people into PWOC and the church.
Rachel Branscam, a prayer coordinator for women, announced that she is willing to teach the importance of prayer to anyone desiring to start their own prayer meeting.
Worship night concluded with music along with an alter call as women came up to express their needs for a more detailed one-on-one prayer.
