Meet the Crime Prevention Patrol Team

FORT IRWIN, Calif. — The Directorate of Emergency Services (DES) wants to let the community know that a Crime Prevention Officer conducts patrols on a monthly basis in the residential areas, looking for suspicious activity, as well as annotating residences that were left unsecured. He also conducts a survey of broken streetlamps, and damaged property and reports findings at the monthly USAG mayors meeting. The Crime Prevention Officer is often accompanied by a volunteer or two, and DES welcomes individuals who wish to do ride-a-longs. If you see the government-own vehicle (GOV) with “Neighborhood Watch” placards on the doors, driving slowly throughout residential areas, feel free to approach, have a conversation, and talk to him about what’s going on in your neighborhood. As a public safety reminder, please remember that Fort Irwin Police Department uniformed patrol personnel can be recognized by their black police vest, and duty belt worn over the Army Combat Uniform or the blue DoD police uniform. All pa- trol vehicles are marked with the standard green and yellow markings. Traffic Units patrol roads for traffic violations and some units are unmarked, however they do not enter residences without other patrol units present. Generally police do not enter barracks without notification and coordination with the unit command team. Local police coordinate law enforcement activities through the MP desk and do not enter residences without Fort Irwin Police. Military Police investigations in plain clothes who are in contact with the public, must show credentials. If you suspect someone of impersonating police on the installation, immediately call 911 and report the incident.
