MISSIONS
EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, EDWARDS, CA.
Mission: The 412th Test Wing is the host wing for Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. -- the 2nd largest base in the Air Force. The wing oversees base day- to-day operations and provides support for over 10,000 military, federal civilian and contract personnel assigned to a 481 square mile installation. The 412th Test Wing plans, conducts, analyzes, and reports on all flight and ground testing of aircraft, weapons systems, software and components as well as modeling and simulation for the U.S. Air Force. There are three core components for this mission: flying operations, maintenance and engineering.
FORT IRWIN NATIONAL TRAINING CENTER, NEAR BARSTOW, CA.
Mission: The National Training Center conducts tough, realistic, Unified Land Operations with our Unified Action Partners to prepare Brigade Combat Teams and other units for combat while taking care of Soldiers, Civilians, and Family members. Vision: Develop Leaders at echelon who can prevail in con- ditions of ambiguity... Leaders that think fast, make sound decisions, exercise disciplined initiative, and give commands. We help leaders learn HOW to think, not WHAT to think.
NELLIS AIR FORCE BASE, NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV.
Mission: The "Home of the Fighter Pilot," Nellis Air Force Base is home to the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center, the largest and most demanding advanced air combat training mission in the world. At Nellis, we provide training for composite strike forces which include every type of aircraft in the Air Force inventory. Training is conducted in conjunction with air and ground units of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and air forces from our allied nations. The crews do not come to learn how to fly, but instead how to be the best combat aviators in the world.
CREECH AIR FORCE BASE, INDIAN SPRINGS, NV.
Mission: On June 20, 2005, with the transfer of the remotely piloted aviation mission to Indian Springs growing rapidly, the U.S. Air Force re-designated Indian Springs AFAF as Creech AFB in honor of Gen. Wilbur L. Creech. The shifting of a global remotely piloted aviation mission to Creech AFB, to include aircrew training and the supporting, directing and coordination of combat sorties halfway across the world, continues to the present. On March 13, 2007, the arrival of the first MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft at Creech marked another milestone in the base's growing fleet of remotely piloted aircraft. The U.S. Air Force provided for direct leadership of these missions on May 1, 2007, with the activation of the 432nd Wing at Creech. Activation of the 432nd Air Expeditionary Wing on May 15, 2008 formally recognized the full spectrum of these operations. Creech AFB also continues to serve as the aerial demon- stration training site of the Air Force's Thunderbirds, and to engage in daily overseas Contingency Operations as the home base of remotely piloted aircraft systems which fly missions across the globe.
DAVIS-MONTHAN AIR FORCE BASE, TUCSON, AZ.
Mission: To provide attack airpower, expeditionary combat support and medical forces ready for worldwide deployment to combatant commanders. Pro- duce highly-trained A-10C pilots to meet the Combat Air Forces, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve requirements. Support the 12th Air Forces (AFSOUTH) not only in the U.S., but all over the world. They perform many humanitarian missions to South America.
LUKE AIR FORCE BASE, GLENDALE, AZ.
Mission: "We train the world's greatest fighter pilots and combat ready Airmen." Vision: "We build the future of Airpower." This vision clarifies both our purpose and direction in the 56th Fighter Wing. Thunderbolt Nation is the largest Fighter Wing in the world and we are still growing. Being trusted with this number of assets makes building the future of Airpower everyone's responsibility. Let this vision guide you as you make daily great decisions.
