The Fort Irwin Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) handed out bracelets at the Man Exchange to Soldiers, Families and civilians in support of Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 24.
The drug free campaign of “You Only Live Once, Be Drug Free,” encour- ages the Fort Irwin community to take a stand against substance abuse and to educate their children. Throughout the week, MWR and the Exchange offered discounts on food and services to help spread awareness.
“Every year we provide information as a way to assist the community to educate their children, we support a drug free com- munity, ”said Elizabeth Sinclair, Preven- tion & Drug Test Coordinator ”Nowadays, there are so many influences especially with social media, it’s sometimes hard for parents to know what their children are exposed to when they’re not around.”
Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobac- co and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October in the United States. It began after the kidnapping, torture, and murder of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena in 1985.
