LUCILLE: My son's joined the Air Force. Go inspect the
Air Force. I gotta work at six A.M.
She turns away.
FRANK'S POINT OF VIEW: She is wearing sneakers with
an orange crescent.
FRANK:
Wait -- those sneakers --
LUCILLE: Sneakers?
She looks at her feet.
LUCILLE: Inspector, It's twelve o'clock at night. People
are being robbed and killed out there. You're worried
about my sneakers? -- Do I look like a shoe bomber?
FRANK: Where'd you get them?
In the light spilling out from her room down the hall, we
can spot the orange swirl on the heel.
LUCILLE:
From the Air Force. They were donated to the
Base. These were too small for anybody, so Duane got 'em
for me. (thinks)
You accusing Duane of stealing sneakers?
FRANK:
(ending the interview) Thanks for your
cooperation.
She turns away, walks back to her apartment door, shuts
it, returning the hall to darkness.
Frank looks after her, thoughtful.
