Page 25 - RICHERT VS. SORKIN THEFT OF THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT AND THE WEST WING
P. 25
in the following letter aaron sorkin admits to meeting robert redford, admits to hearing our original story, and admits he went off to write a story about a widowed president that is 'original' with him -- at the same time, admitting where he heard the story.
when he writes a script based on a story of another writer's script that he heard from the producer of that writer's script, the writer's guild requires the oringal writer or writers receive a ''created by" credit and the fees that come with it.
but sorkin didn't base his script on the story he heard, but on the actual screenplays written by mr. richert and mr. morris, with duplicate situations, characters, and dialogue.
none of this originated with aaron sorkin, who was under contract to castle rock as a re-writer after he and reiner worked on 'a few good men'
during the time of his re-writing 'the american president' sorkin was performing a similar service for steven speilberg on another film, and was also developing his pet project 'sports night.' as well as having an affair with julia bingham, who is trying to get him into rehab.
sorkin also told the press how he lied on crack, and he was on crack the whole time.
key here is the central issue: the responsable wga committee never saw this letter.
we only got it in discovery.
sorkin was protected from within and without the wga, as Julia Bingham sorkin and john wells later profited from 'the west wing' and alan horn did too; union insiders should not profit from the loss of a member's work.
