SCOFFER: (into phone) -- Donald Welston -- was blown to
pieces less than two hours ago as he was pulling into his
driveway. I suggest you stay in your house until you hear
from me or from Lambert Whipp. If you are contacted
by any other living being you are to regard the
communica- tion as suspect. Good night.
He hangs up the phone, looks across at Lambert.
WHIPP: This is out of containment. We'll have to inform
the President.
SCOFFER: (looks up at the ceiling) I don't see we have any
choice.
TIM PREPP'S HOUSE - NIGHT
Tim is standing in shock by the cheerful kitchen wall
phone, his hand still on the receiver he's just hung up.
Amanda goes to him. He reaches back, touches her hand.
TIM: Somebody killed Don. I was going to have lunch
with him tomorrow.
She steps back.

TIM: He's got two kids. () I think I've been fired,
Honey .
AMANDA: At least you're alive.
TIM: If they can get to someone with Don’s background
at Treasury, they can get to any- one. (looks up at her)
Maybe you should go home.
AMANDA: This is my home.
TIM: I mean to your parents. -- Till I find out what's
happening here.
