Mission to Prisons
20 Year Boost!
This year at Daylight we are celebrating our 20th Anniversary; but we have
been taking the gospel into prisons for longer. Back in June ‘24, as our year of celebrations began, we sent a gift box to each prison chaplaincy with a variety of our resources.
Two of our ministries are run from the office
rather than on the ground in prison, they are our
“pen pal” service and what we call simply,
‘Written Messages’. These messages began
back during COVID when one of our Chaplains
was unable to attend the prison, so he wrote up JUNE his sermon, had them printed out and slid under
the cell doors. But when the Sunday services
restarted the guys said they still wanted the
written messages as well! A new opportunity
was born. We have scaled back from weekly to
fortnightly and now share the responsibility of
writing, but the purpose remains the same, to
encourage and enable growth in faith by reading
and learning from the Word of God. Each time
we try to include something for the believer, a
challenge to one who is unsure of where they
stand, some song words or poetry that might
help in meditation and a challenge of how to
take things further.
Back in early 2024, we were sending out fewer than 50 copies each fortnight, although a few more were being used by Chaplains who can download them from the internet. However, within a couple of months the number of the gift boxes had trebled; last month we sent out more than 170! Three of them fly the Atlantic to guys who have been moved to prisons over there and a few go to guys post release, who are still blessed to receive them.
Please pray for us and this work; and if you would like a pen pal or to receive the Written Messages then ask your Chaplain for a sign-up card or write to Daylight CPT, CM2 0RG.
