Saturday August 23 - Accompanying signs
The disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it. Mark 16:20
In Luke 19:10 Jesus declares, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost”. His mission still stands; it should be the purpose of every church and every Christian. We have the instruction manual (the Bible), we have the resource (the Holy Spirit), so all we need now is personal resolve (faith).
The key to success is ‘and the Lord worked with them’. Often we fall foul of asking God to join in with our plans, rather than us enrolling in his! When we do his will, in his way, in his time, then we can expect him to work with us. This is fundamental; prayer meetings can often become the opportunity to give God a ‘to do’ list, when rather it is God who has instructed us to go and lay hands on the sick, drive out demons, etc. God does not work for us; in grace he works with us.
We used to sing an old chorus, simplistic but true: ‘Be bold, be strong, for the Lord your God is with you... Come on and walk in faith and victory, for the Lord your God is with you!’
Today, let’s step out in faith, doing what God has instructed, in assurance that he will confirm with signs and wonders, in accordance with his word and for his glory.
Father, I commit myself to seek to obey your call upon my life and look to you to confirm it with signs and wonders. Amen.

PRAYERS FOR THE WEEK
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.” Mark 16:15
TO GOD: Father, we rejoice in the knowledge that you are the God of all peace and amazing grace. May we share your grace and peace with our needy world at every opportunity.
FOR THE CHURCH: Lord, forgive us when we disobey, and become more concerned about ourselves than about those who are perishing without the knowledge of Christ.
FOR THE WORLD: Lord of the harvest, we pray you will raise up labourers, for the harvest is ripe (Matthew 9:37-38)..
FOR OUR NATION: Lord Jesus, your return is imminent. Commission men and women, filled by your Spirit, to preach the good news boldly and declare the wonders of God.
FOR OUR FRIENDS: Father, it is your will that none may perish (2 Peter 3:9); therefore I pray with confidence for ...............
FOR MYSELF: Loving heavenly Father, may I never be ashamed of the gospel. I confess that ‘it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes’ (Romans 1:16). Amen.
PRAYER
Father, please help me to stand firm in my faith and to be rooted in your Word.
AMEN.
