Saturday November 23 - Equipped by God
Now may the God of peace... equip you with everything good for doing
his will... Hebrews 13:20-21
Before we run away with this promise, let’s consider the condition. God will equip us with every good thing for doing his will. The inference is that when I choose my will, rather than God’s will, by default I am choosing to rely on my own strength; I am sure you will agree that’s a ‘no-brainer’. In the previous twelve chapters God has laid out his will for Christians throughout the ages. We have been inspired to see Jesus as the Son of God, superior to angels, to Moses, to the Sabbath, to the high priest, to the Old Covenant, to the temple, to ritual sacrifice. Hallelujah! He is the co-creator of all things, the Redeemer of all creation, who in himself holds all things together. We are called to have faith in God and fix our eyes upon Jesus. Praise God!
Peter reminds us that ‘His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life...’ (2 Peter 1:3). God has equipped us by his Holy Spirit to do his will – that is, to live godly lives. We have not been set up to fail, but to be ‘more than conquerors’ (Romans 8:37), knowing that ‘God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus’ (Philippians 4:19).
What a way to end this Autumn’s reflections!
Now may the God of peace equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in you what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ. Amen.

PRAYERS FOR THE WEEK
“ Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers”. Hebrews 13: 1,2
TO GOD: Father, please forgive us when we have not loved one another and fallen short of your high calling. May our ‘tent curtains’ be opened wide in invitation to others to come and share at our table.
FOR THE CHURCH: Lord, thank you for your life within your church which sets the church apart to welcome the stranger, comfort the weary and feed the hungry in the Name of Jesus.
FOR THE WORLD: Lord God, may we go into your world and make known your love by serving humanity with kindness, generosity and respect.
FOR OUR NATION: Lord Jesus, we pray for our fractured nation. We pray for our elected leaders to inspire us to work for unity, justice and equality and a fairer society .
FOR OUR FRIENDS: Father, please show me today those I should be on touch with who need encouragement or help, spiritual or otherwise.
FOR MYSELF: Loving heavenly Father, I humbly ask to receive an infilling of your love so that others may know the reality of ‘Christ in me the hope of glory’ (Colossians 1:27) so that others
