Fund-raising
IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE...
~ Submitted by George Main ~
As you may have noticed, any donations made at our luncheons go directly to the Langley School District Foundation scholarship fund on behalf of the Langley retired teachers. Any future fund-raising for this purpose (eg. silent auction, gift-wrapping) will be planned and executed by a separate group of volunteer members.
It is a bit of a challenge, but the Langley School District foundation makes it possible for any donations to still be directed to the Langley retired teachers scholarship fund. Maureen Pepin has, and continues to, work tirelessly for this fund, and we appreciate her hard efforts. We will have to change the title of her position to a member-at-large.
AGM and Election
Just a reminder that our annual general meeting is on Tuesday, May 29th. The BSS senior jazz band, under the direction of Mr. Derrick Turi, will be entertaining us again this year. We hope to see many of you there. Don’t let the elections scare you away!
LRTA Scholarship Supporters
ALL positions are open for election.
* Scholarship -- Due to the Society’s Act, this position will now be handled by a member-at-large. ** Member Support -- This position will now be handled by the vice-president
And, as always, nominations are accepted from the floor for all positions.
We are looking for two volunteers to facilitate:
1. Communications coordinator -- Responsibility is to invite members to upcoming luncheons and keep track of numbers for attendance purposes
2. Program coordinator -- Responsibility is to arrange programs for the February and May luncheons
Being an executive member of the LRTA is not time-consuming. We only have 4 luncheons a year and these are successful because of the volunteers. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact Maureen Wilson (president).
Let’s Go Group
The Let’s Go Group, which started in Langley with facilitator Judy de Vries, has been an active group of retired teachers for several years. They have enjoyed day trips, events and long trips. It is now a fund- raising arm for the R. R. Smith Foundation, which may result in some upcoming changes to the Langley group. If there are any members who would like to see the Langley group continue, please let Maureen Wilson (president) know.
BCRTA Handbook
George Main, our past president, has been working hard on updating the BCRTA handbook, so stay tuned for the new revision.
