Transporter Talk No 144
VWT2OC AGM - 13TH MAY 2017
As outlined in “Chairman’s Chat” there will be an AGM to be held with the expectation that some members may like to be elected to the committee. The current committee members are in many cases doing 2 jobs and I would like to spread the load!
The current constitution requires that all members of the existing committee must also stand for re-election, so in this case this will happen. There will not be a possibility to vote against a candidate, only for a candidate or not at all. If you feel strongly about how the club can be run, maybe you should consider standing yourself. It is a “members” club and is run by the members.
When a member is elected to the committee, that person may either volunteer or be asked to become an o cer in charge of some aspect of running the club. The allocation of a particular o ce is by the vote of the committee only, but strong consideration will be given to the preferences of a member standing for election.
The constitution speci es the following o cers:
Chairman
Treasurer
Secretary
Membership Secretary Magazine Editor
Promotions and Public Relations Club Shopkeeper
Camping Coordinator
Events Coordinator
Vehicle Valuation O cer Club Website Coordinator Technical Coordinator
Wee Dubbers Coordinator
Additionally “General Committee Members” may also be elected. These are voluntary posts with expenses only paid; you should not be “out of pocket”.
Being a member of the committee need not be a daunting task, there are typically three face- to-face meetings per year and many decisions can be handled by e-mail. The tasks can for the most part be done from home with a PC and telephone in just a few hours a month. Some tasks may include travelling and expenses are claimable for this. However, whatever the job it can be enjoyable and ful lling to know that your “bit” forms a vital part of running the club.
The club now invites members to stand for election and the rst thing to do is to submit a nomination form. This form simply states that you wish to stand for election and that a seconder supports your application. Seconders need to be members of good standing, ie have been a member for more than a year. It is of course likely that you do not know someone who can second you, in this case submit your application directly to the Chairman. Existing members of the committee do not have to submit an application or be seconded.
So that members know something about the people they are voting for, candidates are invited to submit a short personal statement for publication in the next issue of Transporter Talk, along with the postal voting form. This statement might contain information about yourself, your connection or interest in VW campers, your skills that you feel may be useful and your thoughts on how to progress the club. (We reserve the right to edit or shorten statements) A photograph may also be included. It would be preferable to send this with your nomination form but in any case it needs to be sent in time to be incorporated in TT145 with a closing date of 14th February 2017. Applications can be sent by post or by e-mail to the membership secretary.
Come and be a part of the VWT2OC family.
