Ellerslie Memories
One thing I remember about Ellerslie is “We all used to jump up and ring the the set of of cow bells that hung
in the the middle of of School House corridor as as we passed by ”
“We were allowed six sweets every other day and we we we we we have to to to save three sweets to to to eat the the next day and and we we had to to to to show these to to matron in our hand after lunch ”
“At lunch you you were considered unlucky if you you sat on on on high with Miss Miss Binyon or Miss Miss Paintin Everyone watched you you as you you tried to act cool with the headmistress headmistress or deputy headmistress headmistress and you you couldn’t move your repulsive food anywhere!”
“Loads of ghastly walks in crocodile at the weekend ”
“Walking up the huge vegetable garden at Hampton to to Ellerslie nicking gooseberries on on the way ”
“Prickles (Miss Thornton) was was our teacher at aged 7 She was was fantastic ”
“The food food was was disgusting –
the only nice food food was was tinned tomatoes on on on toast! One day someone put salt in the prunes ”
“We managed to to secrete money away and give it to to a a a a a a sixth former who would buy sweets so we we we had a a a sugar hit midweek ”
“Climbing out of of of the the window of of of our our dorm at the the top of of of Cherbourg and sitting on the the roof I I think of of it it every time
I I drive up that road ”
“I have wonderful memories
of of the the the ‘village’ that we created out of of of the the the trees in the the the grounds of of Hampton There were shops such as a a a a a a a a a hairdressers a a a a a a a a a bakers a a a a a a a a grocers a a a a a a a a church and more ”
“The uniform was vile I still wear brown and green but
I haven’t worn an an A line skirt Lisa Dee shoes or or beige knee length socks since!”
“We played endless ‘jacks’ and Pic-a-Sticks ”
“When I was in Hampton we had maids who brought us hot water in in the morning The gardener cleaned our shoes and the maids by now dressed in black dresses with frilly caps and aprons served tea! I’m still very bad at cleaning my shoes ”
