 OM EVENTS IN 2019
OM Lectures
We have hosted 12 OM lectures this year.
In January the Lucretian Society welcomed Drs Peter Dunlop (SH.64-69) and Mark Winter (SH.64-69). Mark spoke of his career in haematology and Peter of his career in oncology, and held their audience spellbound. Also in January, Piers Storie-Pugh (9.63- 67) returned to speak about the Chindit Operations. In April we welcomed back Nick Owen (1.64-69) to speak about the arts genre of poetry and pictures and its development from the inspiring work of William Blake. In May, Piers Storie-Pugh (9.63-67) returned to speak about D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. At Commemoration the speaker was author and broadcaster Dominic Sandbrook (1.88-93). In June Milly Jean Wall (3.09-14) asked ‘Does the Devil Wear Prada?’: speaking of her journey so far in the fashion world. Then came James Ridout (2.98-03) to speak about his volunteers work in the Channel Islands with Air Sea Rescue. In September, Geoffrey Farrer-Brown (4.47- 53) spoke of his work with medical detection dogs; he came back to speak to the whole FY in November. Alex Fisher (5.98-03) gave a presentation on hydroponics. Finally in November, we welcomed Piers Storie- Pugh (9.63-67) once again to address the Foundation Year about Remembrance. Professor Christopher Whitty (3.79-84) was the guest speaker at the 59 Club Conference (November).
In March we were delighted to welcome back 11 OMs for the careers seminars with the Hundred and Lower Sixth, several of whom are featured here: James Smith (5.06-11), Kate Darlington (Ell.83-88), Joe Brough (6.86-91), St John Donald (6.81-86), Gerard Hillman (5.88-93), David Hirst (2.90-95), and (in front) Richard Delingpole (9.80-85) and Tom Bragg (4.90-95). photo 09
