PRESIDENT’S PATCH
I am Christie Leary, the 3rd VWT2OC President. I was promoted into this position at the September 2016 AGM for a xed 3 year period. I therefore do not feature on the ballot paper in the centrefold. I have been a member continuously since 1992. In 2009 I took up the camping coordinator position until end of 2011. At the AGM of 2012 I went back onto the committee as Vice Chairman and became Chairman when Robin Taylor passed away. VWs have been part of my life since 1968/69 when my father purchased a bay window panel van, swiftly followed by my own. Derek and I have been active members of the club since joining, working as children’s entertainers at the rst few Vanfests, providing discos at AGM’s and running camps for fellow members, including the very successful Summer Solstice rallies.
The Club’s promo stand and shop will be making its rst outing to Bus Types Show at Oswestry over the Easter weekend of 14th/16th April. I will be there ably assisted by Derek, Val & Malcolm. We hope to be able to provide a members’ area where you can meet up with the four of us. Catch up with club gossip and get a welcome cup of tea or co ee. If visiting the show, look out for the club ags and come say hello. Val our membership secretary has a good memory for names so you will not be a stranger. You may only know us by a name in the TT magazine, we are trying to rectify that by adding a photo in future, however there’s nothing like meeting us in person.
Unfortunately Derek and I will probably not be able to attend the AGM this on 13th May as we will be getting ready for Dubs at The Park on Sunday 14th. The VWT2OC promo stand/ shop will be there once again, courtesy of the London Thames Valley Club.
VWT2OC will of course be at Vanfest over the weekend of 26th/28th May and Busfest over 8th/10th September, both held at Three Counties Show Ground, Malvern. Don’t forget that VWT2OC members can obtain a discount on one camping unit at both of these shows. They are quite distinctive and you will have every con dence of a di erent experience visiting both. The club shop with yours truly will be there, so I hope to see you too.
As for Club merchandise, club hoodies are pretty much sold out, however we still have a few polo shirts available. You can purchase these at the shows along with folding buckets, washing up
bowls, insulated travel mugs and hopefully, hot o the press, club baseball caps. The travel mugs are also available by post at a cost of £4.99 for one or £9.00 for two plus £3.00 for delivery.
Our rst camping trip in our T5 will be prior to the committee meeting in March, heading to Winchcombe Camping and Caravanning Club site. This is the one we would recommend members to use for the AGM.
Our T2, Daisy, will be taxed in the early part of the year (still not exempt) as she will be undergoing some cosmetic work prior to the summer outings.
May all your mechanical niggles be little ones and easily overcome.
Regards
Christie Leary
